1 Back to School Night August 28, 2017

2 Arrival and Dismissal School begins at 7:45. Any student arriving after that time MUST check in with the office. **Please try and be on time!! No student is allowed to check out after 2:00. If your child’s transportation arrangement changes, please call the school or send a note.

3 Absences and Tardies Your child must have a doctor’s excuse to be excused from school. 3 tardies/dismissals=1 absence Any long term absences would need to be approved by the principal.

4 Grading Policy A: 100-90 B: 89-80 C: 79-70 D: 70-65 F: 65 or below
To promote to 5th grade, the student MUST have 65% or higher in language arts, math AND science.

5 Progress Reports Progress Reports- middle of each nine weeks
Report cards- end of each nine weeks Feel free to set up a conference anytime! You may call Mrs. Hellums in the office at (601)

6 Graded Papers Folders Graded papers will be returned to the students as they are graded. We will go over their papers with them and take the papers back up. Graded papers folders will come home every Wednesday. -Please go over all of the graded assignments with your child and sign the yellow sheet saying that you’ve seen them. -You may keep the graded papers at home unless we ask for them to be returned. -Please check for other important information as well.

7 Powerschool and Online Tests/Quizzes
Please check powerschool to see your child’s averages and grades that he/she makes on their online quizzes and tests. Your child knows their login information for their online quizzes. (first.last name and goarrows is the password)

8 Homework Homework will be sent home on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Occasionally they will need to study for a quiz or test on Wednesday night. In ELA, we will check the entire weeks homework on Fridays.

10 Arrow Rewards Oops card party (1st 9 weeks only)
Praise Party (keep all 5 oops cards) Field trips -1 at the end of every 9 weeks -Less than 8 marks per 9 weeks -no office or bus referrals Money MUST be turned in on time for your child to participate

11 Accelerated Reader Goals must be met by the end of the 9 weeks.
50 points or more = a 100 as a test grade Students will STAR test 4 times throughout the year to determine their reading level

12 Workbook/Technology Fee
There is a $50 workbook/technology fee that must be paid before your child can get his/her planner and workbooks. This fee also covers their technology usage (iPads). You can pay with cash or check. Please turn this is as soon as possible. If you need a waiver fee, please let us know so we can have one sent home with your child.

13 Birthdays! No invitations may be sent from school
Cupcakes/cookies allowed during lunch(11:55). Plan for 24 kids

14 Snack Please do not forget a healthy snack! -no sunflower seeds
-drinks are allowed but must have a screw on top or be able to be thrown away when finished (Sodas are NOT allowed) Snack time is around 9:45

15 Tutorial This is a class for extra learning opportunities.
ACCENT, Intervention, and Speech take place at this time This is a time to make-up work The students will be working in small groups and one-on-one with the teacher during this time.

16 Math Envision Math Fourth grade math is a review of third grade with something new added to each lesson Your student will have to know their multiplication facts EVERYTHING we do in fourth grade math builds on multiplication

17 Math Math does not have a set schedule with a test every week-we go with the flow We will have a daily grade (or two) each week on the skill we are learning Each Friday, students will be given a morning work quiz.

18 Science Science is a total separate subject. You have to pass Science to pass the 4th grade. We will be using the textbook to support the skills. Please make sure your child knows their vocabulary words.

19 English Language Arts Spiral Notebook- notes and practice
Writing (Narrative, Informative, Opinion) Text- stories, articles, novels Vocabulary Reading Skills and Comprehension Daily grade/Test schedule -Vocabulary- Thursday or Friday -ELA quizzes and tests- Alternate Fridays

21 DATES TO REMEMBER MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4TH IS LABOR DAY- NO SCHOOL!
EASTSIDE’S FUNDRAISER WILL BE GOING ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st THROUGH FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15th FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH IS PUNT, PASS, KICK FOR THE BOYS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4TH IS WALK TO SCHOOL DAY OCTOBER 13TH IS THE END OF THE 1ST 9 WEEKS OCTOBER 19th IS SCHOOL PICTURE DAY OCTOBER 23RD – 27TH IS RED RIBBON WEEK

22 Fundraiser Your child will be bringing home information about our annual school fundraiser Friday, September 1st. Please have all money and order forms turned in on time. (deadline is Friday, September 15th)

24 FRIDAY is National College Colors Day
FRIDAY is National College Colors Day!! We are encouraging all of our students to participate by wearing their favorite college’s colors. If you don’t have a favorite, feel free to wear MAROON and WHITE like Ms. McFarland and Mrs. Peeples! Go Dawgs!!!
