1 SCAR/SC-AGI Activity Report, June 2015 – July 2016
ITALY (Carlo Baroni) SCAR Composite Gazetteer for Antarctica (June July 2016). Italy confirms its continuing interest in the geographic information about Antarctica and on SC-AGI activities. The new Italian National Commission on Antarctic Research (past President Prof. Carlo Alberto Ricci, new President since April 2016 Dr. Antonio Meloni) considers relevant the activity of SCA-GI (Standing Committee on Antarctic Geographic Information) and supports initiatives for implementing its contribute to Antarctic Research (with particular attention to CGA ans Map Catalog) SCAR-SCAGI XXXIV meeting, Kuala Lumpur, 21st August 2016

3 As it concerns the Gazetteer, In the period June 2015-July 2016 the following actions have been carried out: 1) June 2015 – The list of Chinese names submitted by Dr. Songtao in February 2015, after a final check, caused 359 names to be modified, 1 to be cancelled and 85 new names to be added. The .csv files were sent to Ursula Harris and uploaded by the AAD staff. SCAR-SCAGI XXXIV meeting, Kuala Lumpur, 21st August 2016

6 Other activities: About the Paul Morin’s proposal of supplying to SC_AGI team a special access to a georeferenced mosaic of high-resolution Digital Globe satellite imagery covering Antarctica, we are very interested in having access to this extremely valuable facility for checking descriptions of names and their cohordinates. We also are very interested in developing a program of international exchange of information and experience for students to involve in checking descriptions of names, precise locations and cohordinates as well as to develop activity for supporting the Scar Map Catalogue . SCAR-SCAGI XXXIV meeting, Kuala Lumpur, 21st August 2016

7 The maps are formally available for: SCAR-Map catalog
The Geomorphological, Geological, and Geophysical maps produced in the framework of the Italian National Antarctic Programme (PNRA) have been scanned at 600 DPI. Files are in .Tiff format. The list of the scanned documets and references was presented in Brussels (Annex ). Other topographic maps, satellite image mosaic, and geological maps at various scale have also been scanned with the same resolution. The maps are formally available for: SCAR-Map catalog and have been furnished to the Polar Geospatial Center. References of the available documents are furnished for correct citation of the maps (Annex Brussels).
