13 Engagement Case Study Case Study 1
Mrs G is a nurse, her mom lives in a care home in South Staffordshire. Mom was taken into hospital delirious and confused in February after being found on the floor in her room. She wasn’t showing signs of a fall or a stroke at the hospital but staff wanted to do additional checks. She was found to have a bad urinary tract infection and dehydration. Mom also had dementia. Mrs G became concerned for her Mom’s health feeling her Mom was not being washed appropriately, nor was her Mom being encouraged to drink enough fluids. Unfortunately Mrs G did not want to tell our Healthwatch Team the name of the care home due to the fear of reprisal. Healthwatch have had several similar cases in South Staffordshire over the last few months.

14 Engagement Case Study Case Study 2 – Catherine Care
Healthwatch were given the opportunity to visit Catherine Care Day Care services and talk to carers who support adults with physical disabilities and learning disabilities. The surveys and conversations were around experiences of how carers have been impacted by financial cuts through Staffordshire County Council and by cuts in support services.
