1. Altering the Flipped Classroom to Create a Blended Learning Environment

Today we are here to talk with you about the flipped classroom and our experiences using technology in the classroom to create a blended learning environment. We are not experts by any means but have had some experiences that span from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade.

2. Why a flipped classroom?
Research states……
Flipped Classes provide opportunities for students to become self-directed learners
Self-directed learners become more successful in college
Self-directed learners also become life-long learners
This is where I began my journey with the flipped classroom. I researched quite a bit and liked the positives of the flipped class. I loved the idea of more time on my hands with the students. So I began finding videos, creating unit maps, and began to find my way of teaching through using a flipped class.

3. The Good…... Students enjoyed watching videos for homework
Students were engaged and built a strong community with each other
The students became self-regulated and self-directed
Saved time, more interaction with students

4. The Struggles…... Technology was technology
Students who did not have internet did not have the same advantages of other students
Students would come in early to watch videos but that wasn’t always an option
Students without internet access got behind in class

Students can create digital products and keep a digital portfolio of products.
Students can create videos of understanding of concepts and present them.
Students are able to re-watch videos to clarify information.
