This is a ‘one stop shop’ for anyone who wants to teach RE, is already teaching RE or who has to teach RE! You can find out about our different courses as well as links to essential information. We also have ideas to help you if you find you have to teach RE and are a bit uncertain through our ‘survival guide’.

This presentation focuses on the TEACH:RE Primary CORE course and how this can support all teachers and potential teachers of RE. This course is aimed specifically at primary ITT and NQTs
What is the Teach RE:Primary CORE Course?
The course is a distance learning opportunity which aims to build confidence in teaching RE. It supports what student teachers learn about RE as part of their ITT provision. The aim is not to replace ITT provision, but to support it.

4. Summary of the Tasks
Task One: Why is RE on the timetable? You will read information about the purpose of RE from a range of sources. You will then create a leaflet for pupils or parents explaining why RE should be included in the school curriculum.
Task Two: Where can I find accurate information? You will be introduced to the website RE:ONLINE and then asked to complete a number of short activities to help you engage with online resources to support your subject knowledge.
Task Three: What does good teaching and learning look like in RE? You will read about and watch some short films about teaching and learning in RE. You will then reflect on all you have learned to write a short article.
Task Four: What do I need to know to teach RE effectively? This task helps you to develop your subject knowledge, and to apply this to your particular context in school or on a teacher training placement. The aim of this task is to help you ensure learning in RE is as effective as possible.
The tasks support trainees in understanding the purpose of RE, where to find information to help them teach it effectively and also supports their subject knowledge.
The tasks build on the concept of ‘good teaching and learning’ in a general sense.
The tasks have been written by primary ITT specialist tutors who understand how RE connects and links with other areas of the primary curriculum.

Why do the TeachRE:Primary CORE course?
Sometimes it is harder to observe and have time to teach RE on teaching practice and/or in your first year of teaching. This course helps to build confidence and ensure you are even more qualified to teach it effectively.
The course connects you with lots of resources and help that can sustain you throughout your first years of teaching RE.
If you are interested in becoming a subject leader for RE after your NQT year, this course can help to prepare you.

6. I’m interested…how much time will I need to commit?
There are two routes through the course:
Fast Track (roughly one month per task)
Super Fast Track (one week per task)
Each task takes about 4 hours to complete.
The course is flexible, we just ask trainees to commit to a realistic timescale, that works for them.
The most popular one is ‘Fast track’ as this means that you can do the course over a term.
At the moment the Teach RE: Primary CORE course costs £90.
