April Its story began when its forerunner airline, Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL) was incorporated
October TEAL became jointly owned by the New Zealand and Australian Governments
April The New Zealand Government assumed full ownership
December A flying boat service from Auckland via Fiji and the Cook Islands to Tahiti began
September The world's last scheduled international flying boat service was discontinued
April TEAL was renamed Air New Zealand Limited, and continued operating solely international services
March Air New Zealand became a full member of the Star Alliance group
December The 50th anniversary of the Coral Route was celebrated by Air New Zealand
September Air New Zealand debuted ‘Seats to Suit’ which offers customers the choice of Seat, Seat + Bag
January Announced it would begin flying direct to Singapore via an alliance with Singapore Airlines
