1 Homecrest Presbyterian Church Worship of the Lord’s Day November 13th, 2016

2 Gathering Around the WORD Call To Worship (Psalm 98:4-6)
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for God has looked favorably on God’s people and redeemed them. for God has called us God’s own beloved and called each of us by name. for God has blessed God’s creation and called us to worship. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel!

3 Gathering Hymn # 265 “Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun”
Jesus shall reign where'er the sun does its successive journeys run; his kingdom stretch from shore to shore, till moons shall wax and wane no more.

4 Gathering Hymn # 265 “Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun”
To him shall endless prayer be made, and praises throng to crown his head; his name, like sweet perfume, shall rise with every morning sacrifice.

5 Gathering Hymn # 265 “Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun”
People and realms of every tongue dwell on his love with sweetest song, and infant voices shall proclaim their early blessings on his name.

6 Gathering Hymn # 265 “Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun”
Blessings abound where'er he reigns: the prisoners leap to loose their chains; the weary find eternal rest, and all who suffer want are blest.

7 Gathering Hymn # 265 “Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun”
Let every creature rise and bring honors peculiar to our King; angels descend with songs again, and earth repeat the loud Amen!

8 Gathering Around the WORD Call to Confession (Based on Colossians 1:13-14) We do not confess our sins in the hope of forgiveness; but we confess our sins with the certainty of forgiveness. For Christ is our hope and our certainty of our future. We’ve been rescued from the power of darkness and into the kingdom of God’s beloved sons and daughters. Let us confess our sins before God and our neighbors.

9 Gathering Around the WORD Prayer of Confession (in unison)
Gathering Around the WORD Prayer of Confession (in unison) Holy God, we confess that we have neglected to declare Christ as the king and model of our lives. We have been quick to call on others to follow the ways of Christ, yet slow to do the same. We have been bold in demanding generosity, mercy, and forgiveness yet quiet when it comes to offering inclusion, love, and compassion. Forgive us, O God. Restore in us, yet again, the commitment to be more Christlike in word, in deed, and in spirit. Amen.

10 Gathering Around the WORD Declaration of Forgiveness (Based on Colossians 1:20) All things, in heaven and on earth, are reconciled to God in Jesus Christ. Forgiveness is ours through faith in the Lord, in whom God was pleased to dwell. Know that you are forgiven, and be at peace. Thanks be to God, Amen.

11 Gathering Around the WORD Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

12 Gathering Around the WORD Passing of the Peace of Christ
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)

13 Proclaiming the WORD Message to the Youth/ Prayer of Illumination

14 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Colossians 1:11-20)
11May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully 12giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

15 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Colossians 1:11-20)
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers-all things have been created through him and for him. 17He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything.

16 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Colossians 1:11-20)
19For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.

17 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 21:5-19)
When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, he said, 6 "As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down." 7 They asked him, "Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?" 8 And he said, "Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, 'I am he!' and, 'The time is near!' Do not go after them.

18 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 21:5-19)
9 "When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately." 10 Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; 11 there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues; and there will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven.

19 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 21:5-19)
12 "But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. 13 This will give you an opportunity to testify. 14 So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance; 15 for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict.

20 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 21:5-19)
16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. 17 You will be hated by all because of my name. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 By your endurance you will gain your souls.

21 Proclaiming the WORD God Reigns in the Midst of Fears!
(Luke 21:5-19 and Colossians 1:11-20)

22 Responding Hymn # 268 “Crown Him with Many Crowns”
Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne; hark, how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own! Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee, and hail him as thy matchless King through all eternity.

23 Responding Hymn # 268 “Crown Him with Many Crowns”
Crown him the Lord of love; behold his hands and side, rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified: no angel in the sky can fully bear that sight, but downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright.

24 Responding Hymn # 268 “Crown Him with Many Crowns”
Crown him the Lord of peace, whose power a scepter sways from pole to pole, that wars may cease, absorbed in prayer and praise. His reign shall know no end; and round his pierced feet fair flowers of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.

25 Responding Hymn # 268 “Crown Him with Many Crowns”
Crown him the Lord of years, the potentate of time; creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime. All hail, Redeemer, hail! For thou hast died for me; thy praise shall never, never fail throughout eternity.

26 Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith
The Theological Declaration of Barmen "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me." (John 14.6). "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber I am the door; if anyone enters by me, he will be saved." (John 10:1, 9.) 8.11 Jesus Christ, as he is attested for us in Holy Scripture, is the one Word of God which we have to hear and which we have to trust and obey in life and in death.

27 Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith
The Theological Declaration of Barmen 8.12 We reject the false doctrine, as though the church could and would have to acknowledge as a source of its proclamation, apart from and besides this one Word of God, still other events and powers, figures and truths, as God's revelation. "Christ Jesus, whom God has made our wisdom, our righteousness and sanctification and redemption." (1 Cor. 1:30.)

28 Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith
The Theological Declaration of Barmen 8.14 As Jesus Christ is God's assurance of the forgiveness of all our sins, so, in the same way and with the same seriousness he is also God's mighty claim upon our whole life. Through him befalls us a joyful deliverance from the godless fetters of this world for a free, grateful service to his creatures. 8.15 We reject the false doctrine, as though there were areas of our life in which we would not belong to Jesus Christ, but to other lords--areas in which we would not need justification and sanctification through him.
