Classroom Procedures “Daily Five” - bring comp book, colored pen, pencil, planner, calculator every day Review homework at the beginning of class Students self-assess and record on Stamp Sheet at the end of the day Stamp Sheets are turned in Friday All science work goes in the comp book

ISD Grading Project Goal: The purpose of our reporting system is to describe a student’s current level of academic proficiency. Letter Grade based 100% on Summative Assessments (exams, projects, labs) Criterion based grading (3,2,1) for non-achievement (work habits, citizenship, collaboration, and initiative) Achievement Grade Work Habits Citizenship Collaboration Initiative B 3 2

Homework Consists of: Labs/projects that are started in class but completed at home are considered summative assessments Assignments that give students practice demonstrate “work habits”

Guided independence Create a homework routine Quiet, organized space for doing homework Limit distractions during homework (no TV or phone, computer for work purposes only) Check Family Access and class website

Team Points Teams: Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn Demonstrating Expected Behaviors Citizenship/Work Habits Winner at the end of 4-6 weeks: free seat days, hall pass, treat

Expectations Teach Call and Response 1. Follow Directions Quickly

Make good decisions Class Response: “Class, Yes” Warning- post it note Consequence for not following rules: discipline essay, talk with teacher, change seat, infraction, sent out, referral, loss of work habits points, citizenship, etc. Consequence for following rules: team points, “super scientist” awards, post card home, /call home, praise, free seat days

Discipline Essays Disciplinary essays—hand-written by you and signed by parents “Be Respectful” “Good Work Habits” “Following Directions During a Drill” “Safety During a Lab” If You Earn a Writing Assignment Due at the beginning of class the following day and must contain a parent/guardian’s signature. If the assignment is not turned in at the beginning of class the next day with a parent/guardian’s signature, the student will be required to work on the assignment during lunch at Catch-up Café. If the complete assignment is still not turned in at the beginning of class the next day with a parent/guardian’s signature, the student will receive an infraction.

Rinses chemicals from our eyes, We use it in emergencies To keep us from going blind Fire blanket, fire blanket Put on top of a fire Or wrap it around us Either way, the flames expire

Be serious and don’t joke We listen to our teacher and ask questions, folks! We don’t eat our snacks We follow teacher instructions I want to be safe And I know you do too!
