SATs (1 of 2) In May 2018, all Year 2 children will sit SATs! There will be unseen tests in reading and maths that will be sent away to be marked. I will also assess their writing skills based on their independent pieces of writing during the year. For reading, there are two papers and a greater emphasis on comprehension. For maths, there is an arithmetic paper and a reasoning paper (solving mathematical word problems).
5
SATs (2 of 2) There are no set days to administer the SATs and they can be administered in small groups. The tests are not strictly timed and questions may be read to the children on a one-to-one basis in the Maths test. I will use the interim frameworks, which set out the standards, to assess pupils for reading and maths as well as the statutory tests. There will be a SATs meeting on 16th January.

P.E. P.E. will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The children will need to bring in a kit, which they will change into on the day. The children will stay in that kit for the rest of the day and bring their school uniform back in their bags. All clothing and P.E. bags should be labelled.
7
Daily Reading Books will be changed every Monday and Thursday. Two books will be given at a time. Please ensure your child reads for at least fifteen minutes every evening and sign their reading diary every day. Please check that your child is able to comprehend and answer questions about the book (refer to handout provided). The children will also be able to choose one book from the school library to take home and read each week to be returned every Tuesday.
8
Homework (Maths) All homework can be found on the school website.
Children will receive Maths homework on a Thursday and it needs to be returned by Tuesday. The Maths homework will link to what we have been doing that week in class. The children will also have a mental arithmetic test each week every Friday. This will be given out on Thursday of the week before and the learning will link to skills required for the SATs.
9
Homework (English) Children will also receive English homework on a Thursday and it needs to be returned by Monday. The English homework will consist of writing sentences for five of the spellings each week as well as a either a reading comprehension or spelling, punctuation and grammar activity. All homework should be written in cursive or pre-cursive handwriting. The children will also have a spelling test of 10 spellings each week every Friday. These will be given out on Thursday of the week before and will link to the sounds we have been learning in class that week and spellings required for the SATs.
10
Other Expectations Please follow the school uniform policy, which can be found on the school website, and label all pieces of uniform. The children will be provided with a piece of fruit at playtime but a fruit or vegetable snack may also be sent in with the children for break. Children are allowed to bring in a water bottle to school but please make sure it has their name.
11
Behaviour The children still earn house points for their team for good work, effort, achievement and behaviour. All classes follow a traffic light system for behaviour which is used by all staff for any class. Green = Second verbal warning Amber = Miss five minutes of playtime Red = Miss ten minutes of playtime and parent will be informed.
