SPECIFIC What will the goal accomplish? What exactly will you do?
Practice: I want to get good grades.

Measurable How will you measure whether or not the goal has been reached? How will you know if you did it? Practice: I will be the best player on my team.

Attainable Is it possible? Have others done it? Do I have the necessary skills, knowledge and resources? Can I do this? Practice: I will get 100% on every assignment.

Relevant Why do you want to achieve this? What will you get from achieving this? Can I do this? Practice: I will take my ACT as an 8th grader. Consider your values Is it important to me? Will it benefit me in the future?

Time-based When will you do this by? Is that enough time? Is that too much time? Can I do this? Practice: I will study for m

Goal Setting: Example- Get a Driver’s License
Own goal? My dream? Written down? Can I measure whether I received it or not? Short-term goals for today … to be able to drive tomorrow? Is it valuable to me? Can I achieve it? Time frame?
