Individual Question – Round # 7 Question
Lucy babysits for her younger brother and sister. Her parents pay her $10 per hour for any time up at 8:00 PM, and $7 per hour for any time after 8:00 PM. Yesterday, Lucy’s parents went to a wedding and left at 3:30 PM. If Lucy earned $62.50, what time did Lucy’s parents come home? 2015 BHS CalcuSolve
23
Individual Question – Round # 7 Clue
Hint: Lucy’s parents came home before midnight. 2015 BHS CalcuSolve
24
Individual Question – Round # 7 Solution
Lucy’s parents came home at 10:30 PM. From 3:30 to 4:00, Lucy would earn $5. From 4:00 to 8:00, Lucy would earn 4 X $10 or $40. She earns a total of $45 babysitting from 3:30 – 8:00. Subtract $45 from $62.50 and you get $17.50. Lucy earned $17.50 babysitting after 8:00. She would earn $14 babysitting from 8:00 – 10:00. She earned $3.50 babysitting after 10:00, which would be an extra half hour. 2015 BHS CalcuSolve

The Willis Tower, previously known as The Sears Tower, in Chicago is about 1,460 feet tall. Mr. Bear takes the elevator ¾ of the way up to his office. He then takes an elevator 1/5 of the remaining way down to have lunch in the cafeteria. How many feet off of the ground is the cafeteria where Mr. Bear has lunch? Write your answer in feet. 2015 BHS CalcuSolve
29
Group Question – Round # 9 Solution
The cafeteria is 876 feet off of the ground. ¾ of 1460 = 1,095 feet. Mr. Bear’s office is 1,095 feet off of the ground. The cafeteria is 1/5 of the way down from Mr. Bear’s office. 1/5 of 1,095 is 219 feet. 1,095 feet – 219 feet = 876 feet 2015 BHS CalcuSolve
