2 Shepherds & Servants

4 Not War “To succeed, you must have the power to take what is needed. Peace is only a time for preparation for war.” Ephesians 4:1-7 v. 1, Christ over self. v. 2, Humility over ambition. v. 3, Peace over division. v. 4-6, One in all things.

5 Not Taken “Power is always taken, never given.” Ephesians 4:8, 11
Christ is the conqueror, not us. Leadership is a gift, not a conquest. Leadership comes from Christ, not from self.

6 Not Self Interest “Power seeks its own interest over that of others.”
Ephesians 4:11 First look at their titles … Apostles … one sent by someone else Prophets … one who speaks for someone else Evangelists … one who announces someone else’s good news Shepherds … one who looks after others (in this case they don’t even own the sheep, 1 Peter 5)

7 Not Self Interest Second, look at their assigned task …
v. 12, To equip others to work, to build up v. 13, To bring “all” to unity, knowledge, and maturity v. 14, To protect and nurture others

8 Not Fear “To keep power, it is better to be loved than feared.”
Ephesians 4:15-16 Fear is the tool of the devil. Love casts out fear. Love is the method and love is the goal.

9 Shepherds & Servants Our shepherds reenact the gospel.
They exert power through service. They lead by obedience. They gain glory through humility. Philippians 2:1-11
