Baseball in America: A History
1871 was when the first baseball league was made. Around the 20th century is when major cities had actual teams Baseball didn’t come about until the 1920’s because of blockbuster names like Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio.

Baseball has many different languages The sport was played in Japan, Mexico, and all of Central Mexico Towards the 90’s a lot of Latino players came to the Major league

At the start of the 2000 season 71 major league players were from Central America. In Japan baseball it there most popular sport. A big player from Japan named Ichiro Suzuki was a overnight star and is now a legend with over 3000 career base hits. Another star is Albert Puljous who is from the Dominican Republic he currently has over 600 homeruns,

Who Invented Baseball? In 1839 a man named Abner Doubleday invented the sport many know today as baseball. Doubleday went to become Civil War hero later on. Many different variations of the sport was played for example like Cricket.

A People’s History of Baseball
“December 5, 1856 baseball was declared America’s Pastime” said Walt Whitman a news reporter for the New York Mercury. In the late 1800’s people loved the sport that they played “stickball” on the streets or at school campuses.

Baseball’s Equipment Back when baseball started batters wouldn’t wear helmets they'd go up to bat with only a hat. Now its mandatory for batters to use helmets to prevent head injury. Fielding gloves have changed drastically, they went from being a padded mitt to a leather padded glove. At one point some teams wore shorts instead of baseball pants to play in.

Breaking Down Barriers
Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in the Major League. He signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in and was named Rookie of The Year that same year. Robinson was a legend on the field, stealing home 19 times throughout his career and have an overall .311 batting average. Although Robinson’s career was quite short he made a major impact to the game that is still remembered until this day.
