The Union had 22 million people living in their territory compared to 9 million in the Confederacy African-Americans made up 10% of the Union Army

4 Manufacturing/industry
In 1860, 90% of the nation’s manufacturing was in the North This meant more guns, clothing, and railroads Northern states also produced 1/2 of the nation’s corn, 4/5 of the nation’s wheat and 7/8 of its oats

5 Railroads The North had 22,000 miles of railroad tracks while the South had around 9,500 miles

6 Naval Power The Union had the entire Naval Power of the United States at the time …and the Confederacy? What navy?

7 Heart/Passion The Union was fighting to restore the Union
The Confederacy was fighting for their freedom and defending their land
