The Union had 22 million people living in their territory compared to 9 million in the Confederacy African-Americans made up 10% of the Union Army

Manufacturing/industry
In 1860, 90% of the nation’s manufacturing was in the North This meant more guns, clothing, and railroads Northern states also produced 1/2 of the nation’s corn, 4/5 of the nation’s wheat and 7/8 of its oats

Railroads The North had 22,000 miles of railroad tracks while the South had around 9,500 miles

Naval Power The Union had the entire Naval Power of the United States at the time …and the Confederacy? What navy?

The Confederacy was fighting for their freedom and defending their land
