Drug activity ratio in 12 volunteers with mild intermittent asthma during placebo and low-dose (450 mg/day) and high-dose (900 mg/day) therapy with propafenone. Low and high dosages represent ratio of PD20 after propafenone to placebo, whereas drug activity ratio during baseline represents ratio of PD20 at baseline to PD20 after placebo. Dashed line represents potentially important increase in airway reactivity to methacholine (ie, drug activity ratio <0.5). Mean drug activity ratio during high-dose regimen (0.63± 0.1 mg/ml) was significantly lower than mean ratio during low-dose treatment (0.93 ± 0.1 mg/ml) or baseline (1.2 ± 0.1 mg/ml) (p<0.01).
