Objectives Determine the interest districts have for partnering on efforts. Provide updates on our production and professional learning as it relates to the primary challenges of shifting to the new Michigan Science Standards Provide responses to questions and interests of districts. (1)

Individually, “Notice and Note” for your assigned example science assessment. (4 min) Discuss with your tablemates: What are the implications for instruction if these assessments depict the kinds of proficiencies students should gain from their science classes? (7 min) Whole group discussion.(3 min) (14 min)

Features of K-2 Oakland Science Lesson Packets
Aligned to NGSS Vision and science and engineering practices Aligned to GLCE topics – most intersect DCIs Integrates writing of informational text in alignment with the common core All units include an engineering or design project that applies content. Materials are inexpensive and easily acquired.

NGSx Two NGSx workshops occurred in summer 2016 (~50 participants)
Additional events are being set up at district sites OS provides materials and facilitators 98 people have been trained to facilitate in Michigan OS:3, Birmingham:1, Oxford:1, Troy: 1, Waterford:1, OS Contractors: 3 Heidi is trained too!

Ways We Collaborate (Learning + Working Together)
Oakland Science Strategy Team (OSST) Science Council (Sept 28th 12:30-3:30 p.m.) Shifting to MSS through Assessment Modeling Instruction NGSX Possibilities for Partnership (Production + Implementation) Creating a science item cluster bank (High School only for now) Dates: Oct 20, 21 & Nov 3, 4 Creating a science performance assessment bank (K-12) New cohort beginning June 2017 Field-testing opportunity with Phenomenal Science 3-5 Units (5 min) We want to clarify a distinction between collaborating and partnering --- and we are setting up a discussion.
