Computer Based Assessments
The One to One initiative allows the teacher to utilize computer based testing. Advantages: Clear/Crisp graphics that allow the teacher to use Charts, Maps, Graphs, Political Cartoons, and other visual sources to ask “higher-level” questions. Math Literacy: The student will need to read the graph and apply mathematical knowledge to answer the question

Computer Based Assessments
The One to One initiative allows the teacher to utilize computer based testing. *Literacy Initiative- This question is an example of how an excerpt from a primary document can be imbedded into a test question. The student must be able to read a quote from this well known court case and apply their knowledge to the U.S. Constitution to correctly answer the question

Preliminary Statistics: Computer Based Testing vs. Written
Trimester 3 Computer Based Final Exam Overall Average (USH I) 74.3% Overall Pass Rate >60% 81.2% Trimester 1 “Scantron” Final 66% 68%

Data Based Remediation
Sociology: Trimester 2 Midterm Exam: CBT Test #1 = First Exam Test #1 = Post Item Analysis Remediation

Wireless Capability All of the computers are connected to the MHS wireless router which allows students to access the school network and internet This feature is used for research projects
10
Literacy Initiative Students also do “Timed Reading” Activities that combine content knowledge/literacy standards Students have 20 Minutes (See timer in top right corner of computer screen)to read various historical documents and then answer questions associated with them. Question difficulty ranges from Quadrant A (Memorization) to Quadrant D (Application, Inference, and Problem Solving) ***This mimics the ECA English testing environment and reduces “test anxiety” because students are familiar with test format
11
Immediate Feedback/Item Analysis (Remediation)
This student immediately knows her grade on this timed reading activity. The % of questions answered correctly is displayed after she submits her answers over the network *The teacher can also “filter” the test and allow the student to review incorrect responses for remediation *The teacher can also do an “item analysis” and see exactly which standards were not mastered so proper remediation can be administered to a student and/or class

Convenience The “Charging Cart” allows the computer batteries to charge overnight The portable cart also takes up very little space in the classroom and is extremely convenient for student access The cart also locks, so the computers are always secure when not in use

Multimedia “Practice”
Students are gaining familiarity with various Microsoft Office programs that many colleges and businesses use ***Other multimedia programs also used
