CML? Let’s take control! A genetic change of chromosomes 9 and 22 is all it takes to change a life forever. But chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) isn’t the end. Thanks to your help and the medical advances of the last two decades, you are able to guide us patients to a lifelong track of healing, listen to our concerns, and provide us with the best available treatment. On this day, patients across the globe come together to raise awareness about their needs to the general public, politicians, and medical professionals across the world. CML is a rare cancer that is characterized by an unregulated growth of white blood cells in the bone marrow and the accumulation of these cells in the blood. Even though there has been a medical revolution in treating CML over the past decade, not every patient has access to the best available treatment and care. Those who have access struggle to live with CML as a chronic, life-long disease. Without treatment life expectancy is three years. The CML Advocates Network The CML Advocates Network is a global non-profit community run by patients in roughly 85 countries. Launched in 2007 by four founding organizations, it now consists of more than 114 patient groups, offering support by sharing best practices, information, and advice for CML patient advocates.
