1 Bullying in High Schools

2 Bully, Victim, & Bystander
Bully: A person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker Victim: A person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action (bullying in this case) Bystander: A person who is present at an event or incident but does not take part

3 Bystander to Defender Especially important in the high school setting because opinions of peers is the most important thing in the world Once bully is looked down upon for bullying there’s no reason left to bully in the first place

4 Teacher Bullies Students are not the only bullies, teachers can sometimes bully students Unknowingly Knowingly Teacher can be a bystander also

5 Reoccurring Bullying Secondary bullying can result in:
Suicidal thoughts or worse suicide Threaten or put others in danger Depression Anxiety about school Decreased interest in learning Increase in absents etc.

6 Prevention of Bullying in Secondary Schools
Student awareness! Staff confronting bullies- ALWAYS Increase supervision Victim- supported Bully- faces consequences Bystander- informed Defender- applauded

7 Programs to Prevent Bullying
Rachel’s Challenge “Start a chain reaction” Pay it Forward “One act of kindness can change everything”

8 Team Effort Bullying can have a lasting effect on a child’s life, but its eradication requires the support of parents, the educational community, and fellow students Without the commitment of all these people bullying will continue to effect lives everywhere
