3 Folklore Literally means “lore” or knowledge of the “folk” or people.
The oral literature of all people whether they have written knowledge or not.

5 Myths Myths are prose narratives explaining how the world and people came to be in their form. Were the first tools man used to define his world, explain his feelings and make his judgments. Examples: Deities, Creation Stories, Mythical Creatures and Beliefs.

6 Legends Is a narrative of human actions that are perceived both by teller and listeners to take place within human history Legends may be transformed over time,in order to keep them fresh and vital, and realistic Example: The Legend of Pineapple

7 Folktales A tale originating and traditional among people or folk, especially one forming part of the oral tradition of the common people. Example: The Man with the Coconuts

8 Proverbs Proverbs have didactic value Also called Salawikain
Use metaphors drawn from the surrounding nature and everyday life. Examples: “Beauty fades but not goodness” “Feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty”

9 Riddles Riddles use one or more images as metaphor to refer to an object to be guessed. They enriched the imagination and sharpen the senses Examples: My red chicken climbed the Sampaga tree, and it showed its beauty. (Sun)

10 Short Poems Are generally quatrains consisting of 5-12 syllables per line and which are used to be chanted. Example: Tagalog Bulong

11 Tagalog Bulong Tabi, Tabi po Ingkong Makikiraan po lamang

12 Folk Songs Are songs that have been handed down orally through generations. There are songs which are classified into life cycle songs; work and activity songs; ritual and religious songs and miscellaneous songs, such as songs about nature, humorous songs and the like. Example: Leron, Leron Sinta
