Who was Giovanni de Varrazano?
*European Explorer *Hoped to find an easy way to sail around the world *Landed on the Outer Banks! In 1528, he lands on the wrong island while exploring, and gets eaten by cannibals… True Story!

How did Verrazano’s trip transform the world?
Europeans developed strong, fast sailing ships and learned to navigate across long distances *Wanted to explore the globe, curious about the land and eager to make money *Some, also wanted to spread Christianity

*First sailed down to the West African Coast, looking for gold and spices *Then across the Atlantic and ran into the Americas!

Exactly when and how humans came to the Americas remains something of a mystery. Explain two theories. From Asia between 14,000-25,000 years ago during a major ice age. Dropping temperatures caused seawater to freeze and ocean levels to fall. *When oceans fell, a land bridge emerged between North America and Siberia. Asian people from Siberia walked over to the Americas -Over time they developed unique cultures and economies

What common characteristics were shared by the Native American groups in NC?
Lived in small towns that were based on family ties. Their lives revolved around the seasons. Few sought to grow rich.
