Spiral of Inquiry, learning and action
What is our focus? What is leading to this situation? What’s going on for our learners? Scannng – academic, social and emotional factors. Attendance and engagement. Focus – narrow it – not Written Language but what aspects of WL. Developing a hunch – test out ideas. e.g. is lack of engagement really the problem behind poor written language? Checking it out can mean just talking to a handful of studetns or parents. It can mean checking hard dta for correlations (e.g., no breakfast with achievement). Learning – what to do e.g., teaching the teachers about sentences. Take action – just do it Then measure it. Preferably- every term. How can we learn more about what to do? Have we made enough of a difference? What will we do differently? Timperley, Kaser & Halbert, 2014
