2 Eagerly Desired We cannot hope to impact a dying world through a lifeless Christianity, void of the power of the Holy Spirit or the power of God’s Word.

3 Eagerly Desired GRACE GIFTS are supernatural yet practical abilities given by the Father as a means of demonstrating His goodness and grace.

4 Eagerly Desired MINISTRY GIFTS are skilled servants // leaders given by Jesus to His bride (the church) to bring her through to maturity – to equip and prepare them for His return.

7 The Gift of Tongues 1 Cor 13:8-12 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies (now), they will cease (then); where there are tongues (now), they will be stilled (then); where there is knowledge (now), it will pass away (then). 9 For (now) we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when perfection comes (then) the imperfect disappears…12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

8 The Gift of Tongues 1 Cor 14:1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire the spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophesy.

9 The Gift of Tongues WHAT is the gift of tongues?
WHY should I eagerly desire it? (and) HOW do I?

10 The Gift of Tongues WHAT is the gift of tongues?
It’s the Spirit-energized ability to pray, worship, give thanks and speak to God in a language other than your own or one that you’ve learnt.

11 The Gift of Tongues WHAT is the gift of tongues?
Rom 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

12 The Gift of Tongues WHAT is the gift of tongues?
The gift of tongues (the Spirit-energized ability to pray and offer praise) deepens our relationship with the Lord, which is exactly what prayer and praise are meant to do.

13 The Gift of Tongues WHY should I eagerly desire it?
1. It stimulates the flow of the mysteries of God within your spirit.

14 The Gift of Tongues WHY should I eagerly desire it?
1. It stimulates the flow of the mysteries of God within your spirit. 1 Cor 14:2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.

21 The Gift of Tongues WHY should I eagerly desire it?
3. It builds me up. 1 Cor 14:18 I thank God I pray in tongues more than all of you.

22 The Gift of Tongues WHY should I eagerly desire it?
3. It builds me up. 1 Cor 14:18-19 I thank God I pray in tongues more than all of you. But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue.

23 The Gift of Tongues Tongues and Interpretation
1 Cor 14:5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified.

24 The Gift of Tongues Tongues and Interpretation
1 Cor 14:39-40 Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.
