Chalice Lighting We kindle this flame as a symbol of our joining together. May the light of understanding illuminate our lives and may the warmth that comes from the sharing of our lives bring us peace.

187 – It Sounds Along the Ages
Words by: William Channing Gannett Music by: Melody of the Bohemian Brethren 1- It sounds along the ages, soul answering to soul; it kindles on the pages of every Bible scroll; the psalmist heard and sang it, from martyr lips it broke, and prophet tongues out-rang it till sleeping nations woke.
4
2- From Sinai’s cliffs it echoed, it breathed from
Buddha’s tree, it charmed in Athens’ market, it hallowed Galilee; the hammer stroke of Luther, the Pilgrims’ seaside prayer, the oracles of Concord one holy word declare.
5
3- It calls and lo, new justice!
It speaks and lo, new truth! In ever nobler stature and unexhausted youth. Forever on resounding, and knowing nought of time, our laws but catch the music of its eternal chime.

118 – This Little Light of Mine Words & Music: African American spiritual Harmony by Horace Clarence Boyer 1 – This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine
8
2 – Ev-’rywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

597 – Love Versus Hate Never does hatred cease by hating in return;
By Dhammapada Never does hatred cease by hating in return; Only through love can hatred come to an end. Victory breeds hatred; The conquered dwell in sorrow and resentment.
11
They who give up all thought of victory or defeat,
May be calm and live happily at peace. Let us overcome violence by gentleness; Let us overcome evil by good; Let us overcome the miserly by liberality; Let us overcome the liar by truth.

1 – May Nothing Evil Cross This Door
Words by: Louis Untermeyer Music by: Robert N. Quaile 1- May nothing evil cross this door, and may ill fortune never pry about these windows; may the roar and rain go by.
14
2- By faith made strong, the rafters will
withstand the battering of the storm. This hearth, though all the world grow chill, will keep you warm.

140 – Hail the Glorious Golden City
Words by: Felix Adler Music by: Rowland Hugh Prichard 1- Hail the glorious golden city, pictured by the seers of old: everlasting light shines o’er it, wondrous things of it are told. Wise and righteous men and women dwell within its gleaming wall; wrong is banished from its borders, justice reigns supreme o’er all.
17
2 – We are builders of that city.
All our joys and all our groans help to rear its shining ramparts; all our lives are building stones. Whether humble or exalted, all are called to task divine; all must aid alike to carry forward one sublime design.
18
3 – And the work that we have builded,
oft with bleeding hands and tears, oft in error, oft in anguish, will not perish with our years: it will live and shine transfigured in the final reign of right: it will pass into the splendors of the city of the light.

Chalice Extinguishing
This flame has burned as a symbol of our joining together. Soon its warmth and its light will be a memory. And the light of understanding and the warmth of sharing will go with us from this place. So be it.
