Risk of fragmentation of audiences to a level where focused training cannot realistically provide for all of them
Preferred options

General [2014 I&E team primary focus]
Informal learners: Basic information on benefits and other topics of general interest
Formal learners: Foundational knowledge for other audiences
Users [‘General’ initially and adjust as needed in 2015]
Those engaged in entry, storage or retrieval and reuse of clinical information
Designers and Developers [2014 I&E team secondary focus]
Those designing, developing, configuring or deploying systems, or standards, that use SNOMED CT
Terminology Developers [2014 content team focus – initially CTP]
IHTSDO and Members developing and distributing content and other artefacts such as subsets, maps, etc.
Strategy and Procurement [‘General’ initially & adjust as needed in 2015]
Subset of General+User or General+Designer needs
Educators and trainers [Minimum set by educators audiences as above]
Sufficient understanding of all topics they teach or supervise

4. Future training recommendations (2015)
No assignment funded trainees (unlike current SIA scheme)
Assignment for education and training (not for deliverables)
No online course fees
We should not place barriers they limit education
This should extend to mentored schemes – unless there is an persistent disproportionate demand from one country or organization
Retain some face-to-face sessions for mentored training
These are valuable to enhance interaction and learning
Expenses funding creates a significant cost
Limit to small select mentored groups
Possibly limited support where needed (not full expenses)
Keep group size as 8 or less for good interaction
Applies to online and face-to-face
Parallel groups (i.e. geographical centers) possible

Controlled entry to manage numbers but no prerequisites
3 monthly intake, duration 3 months, commitment hours
Typically: 8 hours presentations, 8-12 hours tutorials, 20 hours personal study
Course curriculum
Online presentations ~20 (total 8 hours)
Staged online assessments 5 x 6 test items and 1 x 20 test items final
Online webinar tutorials 2-4 per month
Progress checked monthly
Required for completion
All presentations completed
6 tutorials attended
All assessments with overall score above preset minimum
Below these levels option to retake modules 3 months later
Completion with high score qualifies for access to mentored courses

6 monthly intake, duration 8 months, commitment 120 hours

Staged online assessments 15 x 6 test items, 1 x 30 test items, 4-6 short essay assignments
Online webinar tutorials 4 per month
Mentoring monthly online session
Two face to face two-day sessions
Required for completion
All presentations completed
20 tutorials
All assessments with score above minimum
Below these levels option to retake course modules up to 6 months later otherwise apply to retake from start unless exceptional circumstances
