DTV CAPTION SUMMIT March 14, 2001 Washington, DC STT-BDI-C-52 and STT-UDI-C-49: All set-top terminals submitted to Cable Labs for certification for delivery after July 1, 2002 shall process the Digital Television (DTV) Closed Captioning information, when available in the MPEG-2 Picture User Data, as specified in EIA-708B, section 9 and delivered according to ATSC A/53 amendment 1 (with cc_type set to '10' or '11'). This caption data, when present, shall be passed through to a DTV display via the IEEE-1394 interface. If the set top terminal provides component analog or uncompressed digital output streams, decoding and display of this caption data shall be provided by the set top terminal according to FCC rules part If the set top terminal provides an NTSC analog video output, and the network stream dual carries EIA-608B caption data transported according to SCTE DVS053r7 or DVS 157r1, then the set top terminal shall reconstruct line 21 VBI in the analog output as required by FCC rules part (a)(2).
