1 Product Liability and MBD

2 Question Concerning Product Liability
At Festo we must comply with these requirements for product liability after “End of Production”: Long term archiving (LTA) for documents (2D or 3D) -> Standard is up to 10 years Long term archiving (LTA) for documents (2D or 3D) -> Some customers require up to 30 years!! Festo: 2D TIFF drawings are archived in SAP P15! Native 2D and 3D data are archived in Windchill PDM Link. Which 3D format can guarantee us the product archiving for 30 years? => Challenge -> 3D Annotation

3 VDA 4958, Part 1 - Association of the Automotive Industry
Recommendation of archive format (Page 11): converting from a native (proprietary) source format in a standardized LTA capable neutral format it may be necessary to convert in another neutral format, if the technology changes during the long term archiving

4 Neutral formats for long term archiving LTA
JT Format JT is a standardized visualization format for 3D data. In addition to geometry data, it also support metadata and manufacturing information (e.g. dimensions and tolerances) …..the use of JT for product validation and subsequent manufacturing through to the long-term archiving of engineering data. STEP AP242 In addition AP242 edition 1 contains extensions and significant updates for: Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing Kinematics Tessellation ISO :2014 (abstract of important content) ISO :2014 specifies the application protocol for managed model based 3d engineering engineering and product data for the purpose of long-term archiving and retrieval

5 Personal summery After reading lots of documentation the question marks are even bigger then before!! Have you any experiences with Long Term Archiving LTA in neutral format ????
