5. Concerns About the Indwelling
We have concerns when someone declares: “The Holy Spirit dwells in me” “The Holy Spirit directs me” “The Holy Spirit has spoken to me” “The Holy Spirit convicts me” Is this appropriate?

Ro 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
2Ti 1:14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.

8. The Reality of the Indwelling
What does “indwelling” mean? Greek: enoikeo ; katoikeo ; meno - To live within - To abide with or remain - To continue with one idea or thinking Foreshadowed in the Old Law Temple

9. The Reality of the Indwelling
How is “indwelling” used in the Bible? - The Father “indwells” in us – I John 4:16 - The Son “indwells” in us – Ephesians 3:17 - The Spirit “indwells” in us – I Corinthians 3:16 - We “indwell” in the Father – I John 4:12 - We “indwell” in the Son – I John 3:24 - We “indwell” in the Spirit – I John 3:24
1Jo 4:16 We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
1Jo 3:24 The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

10. Conclusion: The Indwelling is Real
We accept that there is an indwelling We are not afraid to proclaim this Our question: how does it work?
1Jo 4:16 We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
1Jo 3:24 The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.

An indwelling by Faith is a real indwelling
Faith that comes by the Word of God

For it is impossible for those who ……have become partakers of the Holy Spirit…. if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, Hebrews 6:4,6 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, Hebrews 10:26

To seal, show we are approved of God (Ephesians 1:13) To give us access to the Father (Ephesians 2:18) To strengthen (Ephesians 3:16) To bear witness with our spirit (Romans 8:16) To enable us to bear his fruit (Galatians 5:22,23) To quicken our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11) To mortify the deeds of the body (Romans 8:13) To lead us (Galatians 5:18) Assurance that God abides in us (1 John 3:24)

His manifestation and work is through a medium:

31. Misapplication of the Indwelling
Indwelling by faith is a REAL indwelling - To deny this could lead to blasphemy Describing that indwelling in active terms is right Our only real concern: - An indwelling that goes beyond what is written - An indwelling that is NOT of Faith

The Holy Spirit: Does not “illuminate” Scripture He is revealed by Scripture He is not “felt”, He is known

33. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of error John 4:6
So what? Knowing how the Spirit works within us make us obedient to God
