3 Club sport going  GOING DOWN  Played Sport  8% !!
Went to watch sport  3.1% Unfortunately though, we don’t do the same for sport – or at least not effectively. Scary stuff – where do you see us being in 2025?!

4 We’ve got a problem! GOING DOWN  Golf  3.3% Tennis  3.1%
Cricket  1% Football  0.3 – 0.7% No one should be sitting back thinking, this doesn’t apply to my sport or business, we can always do things better, or someone else will do it instead of you.

5 Meanwhile the web & social media…
BOOM facebook didn’t exist 10 years ago - it now has more users (one billion+) that the internet had 10 years ago! With the internet or online and social media, the biggest of which is facebook. Don’t be shy, but hands up anyone who’s not on facebook?

Essential Understands the players / supporters Knows why your sport / club is the best Has a habit of telling a good story Desirable Experience promoting self & others via: Web / Blog Facebook Twitter, and maybe … LinkedIn, G+, YouTube & Instagram too! I believe online & social media is about telling your story and in our industry, your sport story, so in 30 seconds let me tell you mine…Les Twentyman and crime 1 in 20 only played sport Ask that attendees share there sport story for 30 seconds with someone they don’t know – bring whistle for time

7 Two functions of marketing…

8 Competitive advantages online…
Need to have a good “business” website, need to be easily searchable, need to drive traffic to our business using social media

9 Relationships & FANS…. FAN* Player, Volunteer, Supporter plus
Business-to-Customer (B2C) = Club2Fan (C2F) Business-to-Business (B2B) = Club2Sponsor (C2S) *Note: Social Media also enables Fans and Sponsors to share with one another and the Club. FAN* Player, Volunteer, Supporter plus SPONSOR Business, Partner, Stakeholder … CLUB League, Association and so on This is why its an unbelievably good time to be a marketer and to grow your sport or enterprise! Up until 5 short years ago, we predominantly only had B2B and B2C, but now! Everyone can speak publicly to and about anyone!

10 Where are you? YOUR WEBSITE IS YOUR BUSINESS. IF YOU CAN’T BE FOUND, YOU DON’T EXIST. If you aren’t on Google, the world no longer knows you exist – I’m in the process of finalising my website so I’d appreciate any feedback or comments from the class.

Monash sport has a range of clubs, like but not including Vic Beach that I’m involved in and this is where the biz needs to take place i.e. dates, times, results, how to join, pay etc *vicbeach.com.au shameless plug!

12 Facebook marketing… In sport at the participation level, facebook is great for establishing groups and engaging within your community. For business, facebook is a non threatening way of letting interested people know what you do and follow you if they see value. Because 80% of your fans/customers are likely to be on facebook this is a great way to share.

13 Twitter marketing… Less than 20% of your fans and customers are likely to be on twitter BUT, business are increasingly likely to be there, so “shout out” for your sponsors, stakeholders and suppliers sake

14 But wait there’s more (and they fit in your pocket!)
If I was only to show one slide, this would probably be it – my iPhone and my laptop are my business and I’ve learnt how to best use them for my purposes.
