1 iLab Accounts If you have not done so already, you must register for an iLab account to use any iLab-controlled instruments and equipment To create an account, go to and login with your Purdue Career Account

2 iLab Accounts After you have created an account, your advising professor(s) will have to assign billing account(s) to your profile by either: Directly approving the account access themselves through iLab Providing your name and the billing account(s) to the ARMS business office for approval

3 Using iLab iLab is a browser-based software that can be accessed from any device connected to the internet In iLab, you must reserve a time from the Core Facility schedule Once reserved, you need to enable/disable the instrument from the Core's Kiosk page in iLab You cannot turn on an instrument in the Kiosk without a reservation Your iLab user account must have at least one faculty-approved billing account active to reserve and use instruments

4 Using iLab To schedule a session on one of the MSE instruments, go to the following Core Facility link(s) from Chrome or Firefox (IE does not work well with iLab): XL40: T20: MSE Characterization and Prep: characterization-recharge-center/?tab=equipment Soft Materials Lab: characterization-laboratory-smc/?tab=equipment

5 Scheduling in iLab L-click and drag on the calendar to select the desired reservation time (15- up to 60-min increments depending on the tool) You can reserve time up to 14 days in advance

6 Scheduling in iLab Use the Reservation Event type
Type in your name into the Customer field Select which Lab group you want to make the reservation within Select Account String… from the dropdown menu in Payment Information Save Reservation

7 iLab Kiosk To start/finish a session, you must go to the iLab Kiosk page for the Core Facility (listed below); there does not appear to be a way for users to directly navigate from the scheduling pages to the kiosk. XL40 and T20*: MSE Characterization and Prep: Soft Materials Lab: *MSE EMs have transferred to the Purdue Electron Microscopy Facility which is a more unified, campus-wide EM Facility. All other instruments are listed in either the SMC or Characterization and Preparation Cores.

8 iLab Kiosk Lab ECN computers have/will have the appropriate Core scheduling and kiosk pages linked to the Start menu under 'All Programs' Suggested: bookmark your appropriate kiosk page(s) Find your reservation and select Start

9 iLab Kiosk Log out & use equipment or Finish to disable the instrument

10 iLab Admin Alternate path to kiosk for admins only:
From the main Core Page (see links on the previous page), select the icon and "Open equipment kiosk page" This step replaces the Coral Login, Enable/Disable More

11 iLab Admin Manual override of the interlock:
From the main Core Page (see links on the first page), select the icon and "Manage Interlocks" Find the instrument in the Core list and toggle the override switch from off to on Make sure to leave the override off during normal use More

12 iLab Admin + + Processing Training requests:
From the main Core Page (see links on the first page), select the 'View All Requests' tab Click to expand an individual request Click View Form: Instrument Training Request to see details, including which instrument(s) the user is requesting If you approve the request, select Agree For BILLED INSTRUMENTS, select add service option below the request form, open the Training Fee section, type "1" into the appropriate equipment box and add the charge: $_._ _ The user will have to approve the above charge(s) before they can be properly submitted for billing + +

13 iLab Admin Processing Training requests (cont.):
To process the application, select Begin and/or Complete, as appropriate The training fee cannot be processed until the request is marked as 'completed' See "Monthly Billing" in this PPT for instructions on how to submit all billing events from the current billing cycle

14 iLab Admin Adding Trained users:
From the scheduling tab on the Core Page (see links on the first page), go to the desired instrument (expand the equipment subgroup if needed) Select the 'edit' icon for that specific instrument Select 'Training' from the menu on the L-HS Type in the name (full or partial, as needed) of the trained user; their account will pop up once the system has recognized the name in the existing user database for Purdue iLab Note: they will not appear if they do not created an iLab account and/or you will receive a notification of a problem if they have an account, but no faculty have authorized their access to one or more billing account(s)

15 iLab Admin Adding Trained users (ALT):
Select 'people search' on the L-HS menu Under 'Keywords' search the person's name From the list of name(s) that appears, select the 'Equipment training' icon on the R-HS (optical microscope icon) A horizontal list of available equipment will appear; 'check' the corresponding box for the desired instrument(s) Note: they will not appear if they do not created an iLab account and/or you will receive a notification of a problem if they have an account, but no faculty have authorized their access to one or more billing account(s)

16 iLab Admin Monthly Billing: confirming usage
From the 'Schedule Equipment' tab, expand an individual instrument and select 'Confirm usage' on the R-HS to bring up all Unconfirmed Usage For any Log matched sessions, the check box (above the X on the R-HS) should be selected—all Log matched sessions must be submitted as this indicates a reservation that was enabled through the Kiosk Any sessions with missing information will need to be corrected If a session was unused/cancelled, "Log matched" will not appear. In those cases, 'no charge' must be checked as we cannot bill unused sessions Select a justification and Once all sessions are properly processed, check all boxes, scroll down to the bottom and click ! Apply $ Confirm all checked

17 iLab Admin Monthly Billing: confirming usage
Alternatively, from the 'Schedule Equipment' tab, select 'Confirm usage' to view all pending equipment sessions This option shows all instruments (with an option to filter). As of now, this interface is newer and less familiar and a detailed walk-through has been omitted.
