Coastal and Marine Ecosystem

Ecosystem
3
An ecosystem is a biological environment consisting of all the living things in a particular area, as well as all the nonliving (abiotic), physical components of the environment with which the organisms interact, such as air, soil, water and sunlight Ecosystem Community Abiotic Biotic Population Component Habitant Energy Way of Living Species
4
Coastal ecosystem The coastal ecosystem lies where the land and ocean meet Coastal Land Ocean
5
Ocean Land Coastal The processes are : Tidal Wind Salt intrusion Land Ocean Coastal The processes are : Sedimentation Runoff Water stream
6
Physical component in coastal ecosystem
1. Water Structure Interaction between sea water and pollutant : Missible Immissible Partial immissible
7
2. Chemical component in the sea water
8
3. Dissolved gasses - Nitrogen - Oxygen - Carbon dioxida 4. Density Density in the sea water was influenced by : - Temperature - Salinity - Pressure 5. Salinity Generally defined as the salt concentration (e.g., Sodium and Chlorure) in sea water. It is measured in unit of PSU (Practical Salinity Unit)
9
6. Sunlight Sunlight is penetrated in the water bodies up to 100 m depth in the clear sea water 7. Wave a wave is a disturbance that travels through space and time, usually accompanied by the transfer of energy
10
7. Sea current Sea current is a complex phenomenon which influenced by wind, and heat. Hence, sea current is a effective media to distribute and dissolve marine pollutant.

Ecosystem in the coastal environment
Mangrove is a non-taxonomic term used to describe a diverse group of plants that are all adapted to a wet, saline habitat. The approximately 50 mangrove species that are found worldwide belong to 20 genera in 16 families, although two families, Avicenniaceae and Rhizophoraceae, dominate in number of species and abundance. Mangroves extend over 18 million hectares worldwide, covering a quarter of the world's tropical coastline.

14
Coral Reef The most diverse and beautiful of all marine habitats
They lives in warm, clean and shallow waters They are a home for many marine habitats
15
Corals can build three types of reefs:
Fringing: grows close to shore Barrier: also grows close to shore but has a lagoon separating it from the shore Atoll: a ring of coral that surrounds a lagoon, often grows on a submerged mountain or volcano
16
Sea grass Seagrasses flowering plants from one of which grow in marine, fully saline environments. Four plant families (Posidoniaceae, Zosteraceae, Hydrocharitaceae, and Cymodoceaceae) Seagrass ecosystems provide habitats for a wide variety of marine organisms, both plant and animal; these include meiofauna and flora, benthic flora and fauna, epiphytic organisms, plankton and fish,
