Ulloa 1766 –1768 - Forceful leader but a reserved intellectual
Tried to clean up the illegal trade by enforcing Spanish trade laws got married in secret without making it a public affair. The entire colony turned against him and committed treason by running him off

O’Reilly 1769 Strong and forceful military leader
Properly claimed Louisiana for Spain and arrested those who were responsible for the rebellion and had them put to death. Was nicknamed “Bloody O’Reilly” for the way he handled the rebel leaders. Replaced the French Superior Council with the Spanish Cabildo

Unzaga 1769 –1777 Laid back (Overlooked much of the illegal trade going on in the colony) even allowing British merchants to set up shops in New Orleans Handled problems in a mild manner and efficient style Appointed French to government positions - Repaired the forts and brought more soldiers. worked well with the natives. Was more accepted when he married a wealthy French merchants daughter.

Galvez 1777 –1785 - Strong military leader
He ordered a survey of the territory (Gulf Coast) Strengthened Military Forces American Revolution broke out He defeated the British forces along the lower Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. He was awarded a royal title and allowed to add the title “Yo Solo” (I alone) to his coat of arms by the King of Spain. - US = a statue in the nation’s capital
