1 For students in Key stage 4
Hello Year 10 (11). I am here to talk to you about the Careerpilot website which is for year olds in the South West. Careerpilot helps young people plan their future study and work and I am going to show you how it could help you.

2 Be thinking about your choices at 18 Start thinking about a job area.
In Year 10 and 11 you need to: Decide what education and training you will do at 16 and where you will do it. Be thinking about your choices at 18 Start thinking about a job area. Careerpilot will help you find out: More about what different jobs involve What the choices are at 16 and 18; Lots more about each choice; Where you can study and learn in the future. What useful skills you have for work and study later. In Year 10 (11) you will be thinking about what to do at the end of Y11 and also be starting to think about a future job or career. There are a lot more choices to be made at 16 than there were at 14. You will be thinking of courses or training you would like to do but also where you will study. (Click) Careerpilot will help you find out: More about what’s involved in jobs; What the choices are at 16 and 18; Lots more about each choice; Where you can study and learn in the future. What useful skills you have for work and study later.

3 Register first and you can save choices later
This is the home page The first thing to do when you use the site is to register (Click) You don’t have to register to use the site but if you do you can save your choices e.g. the things you might like be interested in qualifications, job sectors, providers and things you do, like the Profile. 4 Year 10 or 11 students will find it useful to look at…
Job sectors Providers Choices at 16 or 18 These are some of the things it will be useful for Year 9 students to know more about Numbers shows order of clicks for animation The job sectors - there are 20 different ones The choices that are available at 14 16, 18 Find a Provider to see which are near you When you have looked at those sections you might want to look in more detail at one of the pathways you can take when you are older, or do the Profile. I’ll show you these sections in more detail – click The different pathways

6 With detailed information about each one
Each job sector has lots of detailed information. I am going to show you the (Click) ‘Types of Job in this sector’ section. This is where you can find links to job profiles for 100s of jobs. With detailed information about each one

7 If you click on a job, I am clicking on electrical engineer (click) you will see a job profile (click) on the National Career Service site. The Job Profile will tell you a lot about the job, like the qualifications you will need, how much they could earn and lots more. Don’t forget to click back to Careerpilot when you have finished with the Job Profile.

8 Choose the job sectors you are interested in and save them in ‘Career Tools’
When you are back in Careerpilot if you think there are some job sectors you might be interested in, then you can click to choose them (Click) They will show in grey and be saved in ‘Career Tools’ (Click) (If you are registered) You can change these are add to them at any time (if you are signed in)

10 You will find detailed information (click)
You will find detailed information (click) . (click) like for apprenticeships, what they are, how to get one, etc.

11 Find a Provider (Click)
has a map (Click) to show where all the providers in the South West are (there are loads outside the South West too). (Click) Choose the area where you live e.g Bristol, Bournemouth Choose what sort of provider you want to fin Click on the balloons on the map to find out more about what they offer.

12 If you have time look in more detail at a pathway
or do the Profile After you have looked at job sectors, your future choices and providers, if you have time, you might want to explore one of the pathways you will be able to choose in the future like an apprenticeship, A Levels, Higher education, etc. Or do your Profile which will give you a chance to think of skills you already have, you can add to this later too.

13 Think about the experiences, skills and achievements you have and keep a record for the future
The Profile . (click) will help you think of skills, experiences and achievements you have already that will be valued in future study or work. Tick the boxes of the things you have already done.

14 Careerpilot also has the (click) Qualifications section (click) where you will find all qualifications from Level 1 to 8. Level 2 is 5 A* to C grades at GCSE and Level 8, is Doctorate level. You can click on the links to find out more about the qualifications (click) (click) and also click on the choice buttons (click) to plan a route through the different levels, this can be saved in Career Tools.

15 Your parents/carers will want to help you make your choices so you can tell them about Careerpilot but also we now have a new Parent Zone which helps parents and carers get answers to the career questions they want to ask. (Click) To get to the Parent Zone they can click on the link on Careerpilot (Click) Or go straight to the Parent Zone address
