Electrical Circuits lesson 3
3.1d Circuits to investigate how current changes with voltage for a component e.g. for a resistor (or wire) at constant temperature, a filament lamp and diode.
2
Starter – Describe the relationship for the following graphs
3
How does a diode work? A diode allows current to flow in one direction only. It will not allow the current to flow in the opposite direction. So if the battery is set up so the current flows in a clockwise direction it will lit. If the current is flowing anticlockwise it will not light. Current is flowing clockwise. Current is flowing anti clockwise.
4
Filament bulb Current can flow in either direction. Therefore current can be positive for one direction or negative if flowing in the opposite direction.
5
Ohmic resistor This resistance of an ohmic resistor does not change with temperature. Therefore the resistance is constant.
6
