Integrate technology into your formative assessment practices
CFAs the Easy Way Integrate technology into your formative assessment practices
2
DPISD → PLC DPISD schools are on a journey to becoming high performing PLCs. We understand the many changes, demands, and expectations are being placed on you. In a PLC model, you must consistently assess students on their mastery of the specific content standards that your team has deemed to be the most essential.
3
We are having to assess more often in order to make instructional decisions and assess student progress. This has required us to make a lot of our own materials, and all of this can be stressful!
4
We wish implementing technology could be as simple as this →
The Easiest App We wish implementing technology could be as simple as this →
5
Our Goal for Today: To eliminate some of that stress and show you ways to formatively and summatively assess students using technology that will significantly reduce your transaction cost.
6
Objective: By the end of this session, participants will have a list of technology applications that will increase student engagement during assessment and help decrease the transaction cost of creating CFAs.
7
Let us know… Poll Everywhere Question
8
Poll Everywhere Benefits of this App:
Safe environment: students can be vulnerable, give their authentic responses Helps to tailor your instruction Student monitoring of their own progress Another app you could use for the same thing is: Socrative, Quiz Monkey We just formatively assessed where this group is in integrating technology. We can now tailor our instruction based on this formative assessment

Why should I use tech in place of other methods?
We know that our time and energy are our two most valuable resources and you aren’t going to change a practice in your classroom unless the benefits outweigh the cost of your time and energy. We want to prove to you that integrating technology as an assessment tool under the PLC model will reduce your transaction cost.
10
How do you currently formatively assess?
Post-It Note Activity How do you currently formatively assess? Transaction cost: You must collect, post them all on the wall, sort, record the data. There’s the time it took students to write it all, and sometimes it won’t even stick it on the wall!
11
Padlet Let us show you a way to do this same activity that will greatly decrease your transaction costs.
12
Go Formative A quick, flexible way to formatively assess.
Go Formative gives you live results of open ended, multiple choice, true false, drawing questions, and many more. Teachers are going to complete a Go Formative Quiz about their favorite technology. Student s from Skyward will allow students to see messages of feedback. Make one: Pick a topic, 1-3 questions Share: Apple TV Be Creative
13
Kid by Kid, Skill by Skill is one mantra of a PLC.
But we have so many standards. Yes, quick formative assessment is so important for our daily tracking of student progress, but the PLC process is so much more. Kid by Kid, Skill by Skill is one mantra of a PLC. We must track student progress by standard.
14
And then we have to grade them all
Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a technology application that could track our data by standard AND grade the assessments for us as quick as a flash of a camera?!

Mastery Connect Mastery Connect Overview
Another positive: Assessments tab We are required to reteach and retest students, saves time Laminate and dry erase
