Grant requested by the state or tribe
Success stories: 1) Kotlik elevation, and 2) Nome Front street drainage projects prevented flooding during the 2016 winter storms.

6. Local Hazard Mitigation Plans
Can be submitted as municipality, village, borough, “multijurisdictional”, or Native Alaskan Tribal plan
Tribes may work directly with FEMA for approval of their plans; state involvement in development highly encouraged
The Mitigation Team has a plan coordinator that is a valuable resource during plan development or updates, and will review plans prior to FEMA submission
Specific requirements must be addressed in the LHMP
“a systematic evaluation of the nature and extent of vulnerability to the effects of natural hazards present… and includes actions needed to minimize future vulnerability”
Forms the basis for mitigating risk in emergency situations; natural, man made, or human caused
