2-3 Solving Equations Using the Distributive Property
9/19/17
2
Essential Question: How can you model an equation that uses the Distributive Property?
3
To distribute a value, MULTIPLY that number by EVERY TERM inside the parentheses.
Examples: 5(x + 4) 3(6 – x) –2(x – 7)
4
Practice: 2(x + 6) –8(y + 3) –5(m – 4)
5
Now let’s solve some equations! 3(x + 6) = 24
6
4(8 – c) = 8c + 16 – 6c 6(8x + 9) = 48x – 2
7
Practice. 3e – 8 = 2(e – 4) 4x – 2(x – 2) = x – 8
8
Example 1 (spiral) Use the Distributive Property to solve: 4(8 - x) = 8x x
