Northern Corn Leaf Blight And Management
Five or more “races” of NCLB….0,1 most common Race specific, single gene resistance Race Non-specific: multiple genes against all races Above is a NCLB foliar reaction to a Race 1 infection in a hybrid with the Ht1 gene. Note the increased size of the lesion, and the lack of any chlorotic halo Above is a NCLB foliar reaction to a Race 0 infection in a hybrid with Ht1 gene as the source of resistance. Note the cigar shaped chlorotic halo and the restricted lesion size….

Facts about Goss’s Bacterial Wilt and Leaf Blight
Disease is caused by a bacterial pathogen – Tolerant Susceptible Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. Nebraskensis Plant wounds from wind, sandblasting and hail provide openings for bacteria to enter plants. Insects are not known to be a factor in spread or development of this disease, but we suspect corn blotch leaf miner to be a factor Wet weather and high humidity encourage development Overwinters in infected leaves of corn and several grasses Depending on conditions, may cause only minor problems or devastating damage with grain yield losses approaching 50% Copyright © 2009, Pioneer Hi-Bred
