Government Rhode Islanders ask Charles ll to grant a new charters continuing these basic rights. In 1663 the king issued a paper caleeed the most liberal charter granted by an English monarch in the colonial age. Besides garranted religious freedom, it allowed the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations a self governement. The male property owners were to vote for the colonies law makers. In addition to a government, Rhode Island a general assembly consisting of repersentative from various towns and citioes.

Flag The flag of the state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations is white and consists of a gold anchor in the center (a symbol for hope) surrounded by thirteen gold stars (for the original 13 colonies and Rhode Island status as the 13th state to ratify the Constitution.
