2 Niepce Nicéphore Niépce March 7th 1765 – July 5th 1833 was a French inventor, most noted as one of the inventors of photography and a pioneer in the field. He is most noted for producing the world's first known photograph in 1825. Among Niépce's other inventions was the Pyréolophore, the world's first 'internal combustion engine', which he conceived, created, and developed with his older brother Claude, finally receiving a patent on July 20th 1807 from the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, after successfully powering a boat upstream on the river Saône.

4 Fox Talbot William Henry Fox Talbot 11th February 1800 – 17 September 1877 He was also a noted photographer who made major contributions to the development of photography as an artistic medium. His work in the 1840s on photo-mechanical reproduction led to the creation of the photoglyphic engraving process, the precursor to photogravure. Talbot is also remembered as the holder of a patent which, some say, affected the early development of commercial photography in Britain. Additionally, he made some important early photographs of Oxford, Paris, Reading, and York.

6 Hippolyte Bayard Hippolyte Bayard 20th January 1807 – 14th.
He invented his own process known as direct positive printing and presented the world's first public exhibition of photographs on 24 June 1839. He claimed to have invented photography earlier than Louis-Jacques Mandé Daguerre in France and William Henry Fox Talbot in England, the men traditionally credited with its invention.
