2 Trusting each other… When is a time you’ve been a leader? A follower?
A leader is someone you can trust…do you trust your classmates? 6/11/2018 TL 3.01

3 Every good team has leaders and followers…
Ever heard “Too many Chefs spoil the soup”? A good leader uses the best talents on a group to achieve the group’s goals and helps create new projects and activities. Usually have good communication skills. Gives eye contact when speaking and listening. 6/11/2018 TL 3.01

4 A good leader does not: Dictate what others should do.
Vacate when it comes time to work (cleaning up) Speculate while others work. 6/11/2018 TL 3.01

5 However, they DO: Delegate responsibilities to others.
Delegate means to transfer power, make assignments to others, or to be chosen to lead others. Leaders should be FAIR! Is it fair to be the coach and only start your son/daughter? 6/11/2018 TL 3.01

6 What else makes a good leader?
Speaks out. Faces the group. Listens before responding. Does not interrupt others. Remember active listening? 6/11/2018 TL 3.01

7 There are three leadership styles:
Autocratic Democratic Laissez-faire 6/11/2018 TL 3.01

8 Autocratic CHARACTERIZED BY:
Does all the planning, organizing, controlling, and coordinating. Emphasis on getting the job done without regard to anyone’s feelings. Practices close supervision. 6/11/2018 TL 3.01

9 Democratic CHARACTERIZED BY: Shows consideration for others.
Listens to and uses good ideas from others. Practices general supervision Helps group define goals and use judgments on how to accomplish those goals. 6/11/2018 TL 3.01

10 Laissez-faire (pronounced lay-say-fair)
CHARACTERIZED BY: Passes on information from a Emphasis entirely on the feelings of the group. Depends entirely on the group to get the job done. 6/11/2018 TL 3.01

11 How does this affect the group?
Risk Management - Sometimes in order for a group to move forward, they have to take risks, but evaluate the consequences first for big risks! You must be willing to change for the best interest of the group. Sometimes there needs to be change in the way things are done. Ever done something over and over even though is doesn’t work? 6/11/2018 TL 3.01
