1
KEY CONCEPT Anaerobic Respiration produces a small amount of ATP without oxygen.
2
Fermentation is an anaerobic process.
Fermentation occurs when oxygen is not available Aerobic Anaerobic cellular respiration
3
There are two types of Fermentation:
Lactic acid fermentation occurs in muscle cells #1: Glycolysis splits glucose into two molecules #2: These molecules are converted into lactic acid
4
Alcoholic fermentation
Occurs in yeast organisms The yeast feed on sugars and do only anaerobic respiration. Glycolysis breaks down the sugar which is converted into ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide.
5
Aerobic vs. Anaerobic Respiration
Aerobic Respiration produces: _________ ATP Anaerobic Respiration produces _______ ATP Explain why humans need oxygen to live!
