1 What does it mean when a drawing is not to scale?

2 Where can a scale be used?
Scale Drawings Where can a scale be used?

3 Draw objects, plans or maps!
We couldn’t possibly fit the true measurements of a new house or a new design for a playground onto a piece of paper.

4 What jobs is this skill important for?
Architect Construction workers Architects and drafters work together – architects more on buildings and constructions and need to take into consideration aesthetics and economics – drafters have a wider range can wok on circuits and machinery and are more technical Drafters

5 How do we use scale measurements?
It is important that the drawing is measured accurately using the scale. The measurements must make an exact copy of the real object/building but in a smaller size like a replica of a car

6 The scale of this drawing is 1cm = 25cm
25 x 4 = 100cm 4cm 2cm 25 x 2 = 50cm The scale of this drawing is 1cm = 25cm What is the actual width and height of the TV ?

7 25m is the true length of the house
Imagine this house measures 10 cm in length. The scale used here is 1cm = 2.5m 1cm : 2.5m 10cm : ? 10cm : 25 m 25m is the true length of the house x10 x10

8 The height of the scale drawing of this boat is 23cm.
The scale is 1cm=7m What is the true height of the boat? 161m

9 If the width of the true/real/actual boat is 70m.
The scale is 1cm=7m What is the width of the drawing? 161m

10 Scale Drawing Scale drawings allow us to draw large objects on a smaller scale while keeping things accurate & in proportion!

11 The scale may be given in 2 ways
WAY 1: Given units  1cm = 400km (units given because they are different) WAY 2: No units given  1 : This means that the 1 and are of the SAME units On a paper, you will most likely consider cms 1cm corresponds to 50,000 cm (500m) in real-life!
