The Purpose of a VA To explain, describe or demonstrate something that is not easily explained in words.

What is a Visual Aid (VA)?
Poster Prop Technology (PowerPoint/Keynote, Prezi)

Keys to Good VAs Good color combos (dark writing on light background, vice versa) Good flow (top to bottom, left to right) Simple Large enough to see (eliminate white space)

Keys to Good VAs Visual not Verbal (limit your words) Proofread!
When you do use writing, have easy to read font Posters: don’t hand write, use printed text or stencils Font should be 90 point or larger on posters

Bad VAs Too Busy No flow Funky fonts, sloppy handwriting
Changing in backgrounds (PowerPoint) Changing colors Typos

Revealing Information
If you want to reveal info a little at a time: Use a PowerPoint Use multiple posters Use reveals or add ons

Presenting with VAs Don’t write your speech on your VA
Don’t talk to your VA If they fall (poster) and you still need it, pick it up. If not leave it. If it’s not working, have a back up (technology).
