1 Aim: How can I prepare for my Regents exam?
Do Now: Work with the person next to you and make a list of topics we went over this year. Place an “E” for easier topics & a “H” for the tougher topics

2 Latitude Longitude Field Maps Topographic Maps Gradient
Review Topic: Maps Latitude Longitude Field Maps Topographic Maps Gradient

3 Lines of Latitude Run East to West Units are either North or South
Lines are Parallel to one another Equator is 0 Maximum 90 N (North Pole) 90 S (South Pole)

4 How can we determine our latitude?
We determine our latitude by: North Latitude = Altitude of Polaris (North Star) To Determine altitude you use a sextant.

5 Longitude Lines run North to South Units East & West
Lines cross at the poles Prime Meridian is 0 Maximum is 180 International Date Line

6 What can Longitude tell us?
Every 15 of longitude is 1 hour of time. The Earth has 24 Time Zones. US 4 time Zones

7 Field Maps Field maps show equal values. Isolines are lines connecting the equal values. Could connect pressure isobars, temp. isotherms

8 Topographic Maps Maps showing elevation. Must find contour interval
Highest elevation is 1 less than the next contour line Water always run downhill Hature lines show holes

9 Gradient Gradient= change in field value (Elevation) Distance
The closer the lines are together the steeper the slope To find distance must use the scale

10 Profiles Side views of landscapes.
Must use scrap paper and graph to determine heights
