2 LO: To spell words that use the –ous suffix Tuesday 25th April

3 2 minutes to think of as many words as you can that end in the –ous suffix. FOR EXAMPLE! “dangerous” or “various”

4 Is there a rule? Yes (finally!)
Firstly, adding –ous usually changes a noun to an adjective. Danger (noun) -> Dangerous (adjective) If the root word ends in –e, drop the e when you add –ous. Fame -> Famous If the root word ends in –ge, you keep the e. Advantage -> Advantageous If the root word ends in –y, change the y to an i and add –ous. Vary -> Various

The difference is that you must guess the letters in order before you can move on. When do you think the game will be hardest? When do you think it will be easiest?

6 Spllngs wtht vwls Your teacher will give you some words to spell on your white boards. The difference is, you need to spell the words without using any vowels. In case you forgot, vowels are a, e, i, o, u

7 Seriously Strange Spellings
This is a game to play in pairs! One player will pick a word from this week’s spelling list. They then write the word on their whiteboard, but with the letters in a mixed up order. Your partner then has to work out what the word is. If they get it, they win a point. If they don’t you do! However, if you have misspelled the word, they get a point. Look at your spelling list if you need help thinking of a word to use.
