Goal setting is when you want to achieve good results and you set yourself short term and long term goals. When looking at a programme of learning skills, it is important to set goals. Goals should be SMARTER Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timeframe Evaluate Reassess

Dreams – Goals - Aims Dream – is a thought you have and will remain a dream unless you write it down. I would like to be good at tennis ! Aim – is the target you hope to achieve I am going to be a good tennis player. Goal – is a target you have set and written down. I am going to gong to be able to have a continuous rally of 50 hits.

Goals To improve an athlete’s training efforts performance goals must be set for every training session and competition event. Goals must be challenging, yet achievable. Publicly declared goals often produce better results than goals that are kept private. Attainable short-term goals maintain motivation for long-term goal achievement. Athletes should be involved in the determination of their goals.

Goals continued…. It is good to use the staircase method where goals are set in steps moving forward from a pre test of where you are. Aim – To increase muscle size & power. Goal – To Bench press 60kg 20x Test – Reps of 60kg Week 1 Goal = 4 reps Week 2 Goal = 8 reps Week 3 Goal = 12 Reps

Goals You should set both short term and long term goals that are realistic. Short term goals are set so that you can have a regular update on how your training is going. Long Term Goal – to be able to hit the ball over the net 50 times in a continuous rally. Short Term Goal – week 1 = 5 hits

Goals With perseverance short term goals should be achievable. Hence you can keep to the training programme using the right technique and intensity for the required exercise. Forehand Goal Week 1 – 5 continuous hits Week continuous hits Week continuous hits

Goals Long term goals are dependent on the short term goals. Great emphasis on realistic short term goals is important for long term goals to be realised. Long Term = Continuous rally of 50 hits. Short Term Goals 5 hits, then 10, then 20, then 50.
