Internal Motivation Personal Growth Adventure Risk Taking External Motivation Money Rewards Praise/Punishment What motivates you to do something? Do you have different motivational reasons for different activities? What motivates you to do different things? Do you have different types of motivation to do different things?

4 Goal Setting Something that you want to achieve
Short Term Goals Goals that can be accomplished daily/weekly/monthly For example: Setting a goal to earn an 85% or higher on the English vocabulary test. Long Term Goals Goals that can be accomplished monthly/semester/yearly For example: Setting a goal to get a semester average of “C” or higher in algebra class.

5 You Set a Goal for Yourself
Short Term Goal Long Term Goal Does your short term goal lead up to successfully meeting your long term goal? What kinds of actions do you need to take in order to meet your short term and long term goals? At this time, are your goals realistic for you to reach? Can you change your goals along the way? What happens when you reach your goals?

6 Time Management Prioritize your activities Be realistic
Ask the following questions: How much effort will it require? How long will it take? How involved is it? How do you use your time? Do you get everything accomplished that you want/need to? How can you improve your time management skills?

7 Textbook Analysis Book Parts
Index: back of book; alphabetical topics with page numbers Glossary: back of book; definition and sometimes page numbers Table of Contents: front of book; Chapters: page number, title, outline, summary, review, assessment; maps, charts

8 Textbook Analysis Forward/Preface- gives and overview of the book and its contents; tells how to use the book parts Title page contains the following: title of book; author’s name and his/her professional information; publisher’s name, location, and date published
