2 In this paper we will study the impact of small hydropower plants (SHP’s) built in recent years in Albanian power system such as energy efficiency, improvement of voltage level and increase of capacity of transmission power lines and social impact.

Over 90% of Albanian electricity is produced by hydro power plants The structural scheme of power system in Albania is radial: power generation – transmission lines - distribution Power quality, mainly in south Albania, has low voltage levels at some nodes and significantly transmission power losses The annual energy production by hydropower plants depend on climatic conditions

The power produced by HPPs has the possibility to supply the consumers with increased power quality at a better level. The HPPs reduce the power losses and increase the capacity of transmission lines. The HPPs improved the efficiency of power system The small hydropower plants provides better utilization and optimization of water sources at Fierza Lake and Drini Cascade. HPPs have riarioty producing green energy, with minimal environmental impact and reduce CO2 in atmosphere. Inncreased the transmission capacity of power lines

22 Conclusions SHP’s impacts in power system by improving the power at a better level of quality for consumers. SHP’s reduce the power losses and “increase” the capacity of transmission lines improving the power system efficiency. SHP’s provides better utilization and optimization of water sources at Fierza Lake and Drini Cascade. SHP’s green energy, with minimal environmental impact and reduce CO2 in atmosphere. SHP’s have an economical impact in the region by employing local residents for service and maintenance
