1 Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems
Ilya, Yushin and Sasha,

2 Bellwork Activity 1) Discuss in your tables for 30 seconds and come up with the best circulatory system definition. 2) Now lets discuss as a class

3 Videos for the lesson Take notes on it(Is your benefit to take good notes) system) System)

4 5 Main Ideas of a lesson Cardiovascular System transports needed materials to cells and takes away all wastes produced from cells The heart pumps blood throughout human body Blood vessels and its organs transport blood in human body The lymphatic system sends materials which escaped from the main blood stream back to the blood stream The respiratory system is responsible for oxygen and carbon dioxide movement in the human body

5 Cardiovascular System
Transports blood throughout your body Heart is the main organ in the Cardiovascular System

6 Cardiovascular System functions
1. Brings needed materials to cells: Moves needed substances around by blood 2.Removing wastes: which are being passed from cells to blood and carried away

7 Cardiovascular System Diagram

8 What is heart? Main organ of a circulatory system Has four chambers:

9 The Heart Hollow muscular organ Help blood flow in the human body

10 Atriums VS. Ventricles Left ventricle pumps blood to entire body, while right ventricle pumps blood only to lungs Left atrium receives oxygen rich blood from lungs. Right atrium receives oxygen poor blood from the body cells.

11 Steps of Blood Flow 1. Oxygen poor blood (from body) enters the right atrium 2. Blood goes to right ventricle and is pumped to the lungs. 3. At the lungs carbon dioxide is release from the blood and it receives oxygen. 4. The oxygen rich blood returns to the left atrium. 5. The blood goes to the left ventricle and is pumped to the aorta. 6. The aorta pumps oxygen-rich blood to the entire body.

12 Valves Pacemaker is located in a heart whose job is to send signals that make heart contract. Valve is a flap which separates heart into chambers which prevents blood from flowing backward.

13 Blood vessels helps blood move all around our body
Blood vessels look blue physically and red

14 Difference between blood vessels
Arteries: the arteries look red. It carries blood from the heart to lungs and body. Veins: vein is blue colored and it carries low oxygen blood. it carries blood back to heart from lungs and body. Capillaries:capillaries is purple, and it is located in the middle of the vein and arteries. carries blood by diffusion (high to low concentration)

15 Diagram

16 Structure of blood vessels
Artery walls are thick Innermost is smooth made of epithelial cells (enables to flow freely) The second layer is made of muscle tissue The outer layer is made up of flexible connective tissue (withstand the pressure ) Capillaries one cell thick( pass through easily) looks like spider web Vein three layers (thinner than artery)

17 What the blood vessel looks like

18 What is blood pressure? Blood pressure- blood excerpts force against the wall of the blood vessels. The pressure is caused by ventricles contrasting move softer and fluently because of the blood pressure farther from heart=less pressure closer to heart=more pressure The pressure of the blood is like water in hose moves fast

19 Structure if the blood pressure in blood vessels

20 Normal blood pressure 1.The normal human blood pressure is 120/80 or lower

21 What is the Lymphatic System?
Lymphatic system is a network of vein-like vessels that returns the fluid to the bloodstream Fluid is something that leaks out when blood travels through the capillaries in cardiovascular system.

22 Functions of Lymphatic System
1. Removes useless substances from body tissues. 2. Contains white blood cells, which help the immune system.

23 Parts of Lymphatic System
Lymph is fluid inside the lymphatic system that contains water and dissolve materials such as glucose. Lymph nodes are filters or traps for bacteria. They contain white blood cells to fight bacteria.

24 Lymphatic Disease There is Lymphatic disease which was named Lymphoma or Lymphatic cancer. Lymphoma is when cells of the lymphatic system grow not normally, they divide too rapidly and grow without any order or control.

25 The Respiratory System
What is Respiratory system? Respiratory system is something that help us breathe in oxygen… Also removes carbon dioxide from the body… Taking air into the body through the nose and mouth is called inhalation. Pushing air out of the body through the nose or mouth is called exhalation.

26 Diaphragm Diaphragm as you remember from from “Diversity of Life” unit… It is muscle that help us breath

27 Path of Air Five steps of how we breathe oxygen...
1.)At first air enters the body through two nostrils(or nose) 2.)Then air moves from nose to pharynx (throat) 3.)The trachea (windpipe)leads from the pharynx toward the lungs 4.)From trachea air goes to bronchi( There are left and right bronchi) 5.)When air reaches lungs, it moves through smaller airways (bronchioles)until it reaches alveoli (description and picture of alveoli) That how alveoli looks like -->

28 Alveoli is Important Alveoli is extremely important part of respiratory! WHY? Because alveoli is a place where gas exchange occur and it moves gases between blood and air. Without gas exchange carbon dioxide would stay in our blood Basically we could not breath out carbon dioxide

29 Before we end up... Do you have any question?(Raise your hand)
Now or never!

30 candy time!!!!
